ABOUT AMY

Amy Sanchez is a community strategist and civic leader with more than a decade of experience designing programs, building partnerships, and supporting community-led initiatives in Joliet. Her work is grounded in lived experience, resilience, and a lifelong commitment to violence prevention, youth mentorship, and neighborhood empowerment. Amy has led multiple grassroots efforts, launched resident-driven councils, and helped design programs that strengthen safety, access, and opportunity. She has also served in leadership roles on municipal advisory groups and nonprofit boards, contributing expertise in education, worker rights, community development, and equity.

Professionally, Amy provides consulting, program strategy, and public-facing project management, and is known for her ability to bring people together, build trust, and move ideas into action. Her greatest impact is found in her direct work with youth and families, where she is recognized for her compassion, authenticity, and commitment to every child’s potential.

Her guiding belief is simple: "Strong communities are built by the people who live in them."

MOVEMENT BIO:

Amy Sanchez serves as the Director of Operations for Joliet Unity Movement, where she leads the strategic planning, program execution, and day-to-day operations that drive the organization’s mission: Building and Inspiring Children’s Lives, Empowering the Community. With over a decade of experience in community strategy and grassroots leadership, Amy oversees the development and implementation of JUM’s core initiatives, including youth programming, community engagement efforts, and collaborative partnerships across Joliet.

She plays a central role in aligning operations with organizational vision, ensuring programs are not only impactful, but sustainable and responsive to community needs. In her role, Amy manages cross-sector partnerships, supervises outreach and program teams, and leads the design of initiatives such as the Movement Leadership Academy and the Justice Impact Institute. She is responsible for operational systems, event execution, stakeholder engagement, and ensuring accountability across all programs and services.

Amy’s leadership is rooted in lived experience, a survivor of gun violence as a child fuels a deep commitment to violence prevention, youth mentorship, and neighborhood empowerment. She is known for her ability to build trust, mobilize residents, and translate community voice into action. Through her work, she continues to strengthen Joliet Unity Movement’s role as a trusted anchor organization, expanding opportunities for youth, supporting families, and advancing long-term community transformation.
